Overview
This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by promoting equitable social, economic, and environmental conditions to achieve optimal health, mental health, and well-being. The Office of Health Equity provides a key leadership role to reduce health and mental health disparities experienced by marginalized communities in California.
The candidate works under the general direction of the Office of Health Equity’s (OHE) Deputy Director. The HPM III, is responsible for carrying out the vision, mission and management of all initiatives and priority areas of the Behavioral Health Equity (BHE) Branch, overseeing various contracts, grants, and program services through subordinate supervisors. The HPM III will direct the work of a multidisciplinary team, which engages internal and external partners to promote health and mental health equity through a culturally and linguistically responsive framework focused on prevention and early intervention approaches.

In addition to evaluating each candidate’s relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
Experience working with diverse populations, including children and youth, in a culturally and linguistically responsive approach
Knowledge of adverse childhood experiences, youth empowerment, suicide prevention, substance abuse, mental health, and cultural and linguistic competence
Knowledge of health equity and social determinants of health
Experience overseeing evaluation projects
Experience in establishing positive working relationships with community partners and representatives of all levels of government
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with executive leadership, other state and federal agencies, and CDPH partners
