If so, the Office of Oral Health (OOH) has a great opportunity to join a growing program that is dedicated to improving the oral health of all Californians through prevention, education, surveillance, and organized community efforts. To achieve these goals, OOH is providing strategic advice and leadership to local oral health programs, oral health professionals, stakeholders, and other interested organizations. OOH is building capacity and infrastructure at both the state and local level, conducting surveillance and evaluation, implementing evidence-based programs, and identifying promising practices in oral disease prevention according to the California Oral Health Plan. This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by working collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to liaison with local health departments, other local programs or statewide partners to build capacity and infrastructure for the development, implementation and evaluation of best practices and evidenced-based programs in oral disease prevention. The Health Program Specialist (HPS) I is responsible for the more complex programmatic, administrative, and technical tasks related to formal collaborations with Office of Oral Health (OOH) partners to ensure implementation of OOH goals and activities to increase the dissemination of oral health information and improve oral health literacy and provide technical assistance to local oral health projects. The HPS I will lead efforts in coordinating and facilitating trainings, meetings, conferences, and activities with staff, state agencies, Local Health Departments (LHDs), Associations, and advisory groups. The HPS I must possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrate the ability to work independently and as a member of a team. The HPS I must exhibit an ability to adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic environment to successfully perform assignments following protocols and procedures such as providing technical assistance, administrative guidance, and support to local oral health programs.

Experience developing, monitoring, and evaluating contracts
Reviewing and assessing requests for applications
Coordinating health program activities; defining new programs and identifying resources required
Developing criteria for program evaluation
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Motivated, detail-oriented, and passionate
Ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams
Possess interpersonal skills, creative abilities, and time management skills
Experience with project management
Possess basic software skills (e.g., Microsoft Office) and computer skills including typing, word processing, emailing, and internet research
