To accomplish its mission, the Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health Division (MCAH) maintains partnerships, contracts, and agreements with state, federal, and local agencies in both public and private sectors. MCAH hosts an array of programs and initiatives to serve the state’s diverse populations and regions providing important resources, information and data about reproductive health, family planning, pregnancy, birth outcomes and more.

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by promoting health and wellness, incorporating health equity strategies in programs and practices, and mobilizing partnerships to strengthen collective impact. The position serves as part of a multidisciplinary team that implements local and statewide maternal morbidity and mortality surveillance reviews to improve the health and wellbeing of mothers, infants, children, adolescents, and children and youth with special health care needs and their families.

The candidate works under the general direction of the Health Program Manager II (HPM II), Chief of the Maternal Mortality/Morbidity and Local MCAH Program Support (MMPS) Section. The incumbent supports Local Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health (MCAH) programs to address the needs of California’s diverse populations through an array of programs, partnerships, and initiatives, and the MMPS team supports the California Momnibus Act (SB 65) which aims to promote health and equity, inform and translate data-into-action, integrate community-informed prevention opportunities, and enhances the development of strategies to reduce preventable maternal mortality and morbidity.

Knowledge:

Knowledge of public health, preferably in maternal and child health.
Knowledge of and experience with local communities in California; including experience with or at local health jurisdictions.
Skills:

Skill in presenting information verbally and in writing.
Competency in the use of virtual meeting platforms.
Strong organizational and project management skills.
Abilities:

Ability to prioritize, monitor, and complete complex assignments.
Ability to lead workgroups, projects, or teams.
Ability to adapt and be flexible in the work environment.
Ability to work independently and be a self-starter.
