Overview

The Department of Surgery at the University of California, Davis, Health located in Sacramento, California, seeks to hire a full-time Academic Adult Cardiac Surgeon and Chief of the Division of Cardiac Surgery at the Associate or Full professor level in the Health Science Clinical Professor, Clinical X, or In-Residence series. The Division of Cardiac Surgery is a comprehensive academic program with an integrated 6-year Residency in Thoracic Surgery.

 

The successful candidate must have acquired a history of leadership and administration experience relating to clinical and educational programs, including successful research activities, by virtue of his/her training and/or prior experience.

 

The selected candidate will provide strategic and operational direction that will lead to growth of the educational, research and clinical missions of the surgical programs at UC Davis Health. The candidate selected is expected to engage in the teaching and practice of a broad spectrum of cardiac surgery; including clinical care, both inpatient and outpatient; and research relating to cardiac disease.

 

Expectations of a Clinical X series are to engage in teaching, research, service, and clinical work. Appointees in the In-Residence series are required to participate in teaching, research, University/public service, and patient care, and appointees of the HSCP series are to engage in clinical work, teaching and to support the department’s research mission.

 

The salary range for this position is Associate Professor $590,329-$950,000 and Full Professor $631,559-$1,164,900. This position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan.

Basic Qualifications:
·         Qualified candidates must possess a Medical Degree

·         Candidates must be eligible or certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery

·         The candidate must have the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment

 

Additional Qualifications:
·         Candidates must acquire a CA Medical License before the appointment start date

·         Candidates must acquire California Fluoroscopy Operator’s Permit within the first year of appointment

 

Preferred Qualifications include experience and capability in end-stage heart disease, minimally invasive surgery, and complex coronary revascularization.  Specific training and experience with complex aortic surgery, catheter-based surgery and minimally invasive surgery for atrial fibrillation would also be desirable.  The ideal candidate will have vision, strategic mindset, and willingness to grow a program of excellence, which includes educating different level of learners, exhibiting professionalism, and promoting interdisciplinary team care.
