Overview

The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health in the Program in Public Health at the University of California, Irvine is seeking applicants for a full-time, HS Clinical Associate Professor or Professor to serve as the Director of the MPH Program and the Strategic Advisor to Occupational Health.

The program and the department are interested in candidates with a background working in public health, or closely related filed, in government or private sector with exceptional knowledge and understanding of the workforce landscape and how to leverage the MPH program for career placement and increased enrollment.

We encourage applicants with innovative new perspectives and transdisciplinary research approaches, creating opportunities for collaborative research and training within our department, with the other departments in our emerging School of Population and Public Health, with the other schools within the College of Health Sciences (Medicine, Nursing, Pharmaceutical Sciences), or with any of the various research centers at our campus.

Successful candidates are expected to establish and maintain an extramurally funded research program, participate in departmental teaching and mentoring for graduate students, and provide professional service to the program, the university, and the community. This is a fully funded position, and 11 month compensation is not reliant on grant funding.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited:

Mentoring MPH students 2, Design educational experiences related to the professional practice of public health
Teach MPH students topics related to health policy at the local state and federal level
Teach MPH required practicum course
Conduct research around policy related to occupational health including substance abuse, Workplace exposure, and health advocacy.
As Strategic Advisor, Occupational Health:

Conduct enterprise wide assessment of occupational health services
Review existing occupational health policies to streamline
Assist with integration and assessment of main campus needs
Conduct assessment of workers comp strategy

Candidates must possess a M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or M.D./Dr.PH

Applicants should have excellent clinical skills, medical knowledge, interest in teaching, and scholarly aspirations.

 

Experience as public health practitioner and researcher with a focus on policy related to occupational health, including substance abuse, workplace exposure, and health advocacy. Ability to mentor and advise student in public health practice by designing educational experiences in the field.
