The Department of Public Health at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville is seeking to hire a twelve-month, non-tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice to teach graduate courses within the Department of Public Health in the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s (UTK) College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences.

Primary teaching responsibility will be in the Distance Education (DE) Master of Public Health program. This exciting, dynamic, online distance education program was designed to address the growing demand for Public Health trained professionals. We are seeking candidates who are enthusiastic about teaching and have experience in implementing innovative and effective pedagogical strategies around public health, epidemiology, and biostatistics in both in-person and distance education modalities.

This position will be assigned to the Epidemiology (EPI) concentration in the MPH program and should have expertise in epidemiology, biostatistics, research design, statistical packages (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R), and public health. The successful candidate will contribute to designing and delivering an agile online educational program.

The position begins August 1, 2025. This is a five-year appointment (option to renew based on performance) with annual reviews each year.

 

Responsibilities

This teaching-focused position has a 4/4/2 course load (4 courses in each of the Fall/Spring semesters; 2 courses in Summer semester). The candidate will be assigned courses primarily taught in the distance education MPH program; however, for local candidates, there may be opportunities to teach courses in the on-campus MPH program. Example courses for this position include Biostatistics I (PUBH 530), Biostatistics II (PUBH 531), Principles of Epidemiology (PUBH 540), Epidemiology II (PUBH 542), Research Methods (PUBH 536), and concentration-related electives.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, the candidate will be expected to advise MPH students in the Epidemiology concentration and engage in service activities at the department, college and university level.
