Overview
This full-time, permanent Toxicologist 2 (TOX2) will report to the Toxicology 3 Supervisor within the Site Assessment and Toxicology Section. As a technical lead, you’ll conduct assessments, provide recommendations on complex toxicological issues, and collaborate with various DOH programs, external agencies, and communities. You’ll work closely with partners like the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Washington State Department of Ecology, local public health agencies, and Tribal governments to address environmental contaminants that threaten public health.
We value work-life balance and offer the convenience of remote work! This position will give you the option to work from home or the closest DOH facility. Attending in-person events or working In-office is rarely required and would be scheduled in advance.
Required Qualifications (you must meet ONE of the provided options and any additional criteria listed.):
Experience defined below may have been gained through paid or unpaid activities. Please ensure any relevant experience defined below is outlined in your cover letter, resume, and/or applicant profile.
Option 1: Eight (8) or more years of relevant toxicology experience in a health risk assessment or public health research setting conducting toxicology research, analyses, or evaluations.
Option 2: Bachelor of Science degree in toxicology or in a health or ecological-related science (e.g., chemistry, environmental science) with a major emphasis in toxicology, and four years of relevant toxicology experience.
Option 3: Master’s of Science degree in toxicology or in a health or ecological-related science (e.g., chemistry, environmental science) with a major emphasis in toxicology, and three years of relevant toxicology experience.
Option 4: Ph.D. degree in toxicology or a health or ecological-related science with a major emphasis in toxicology and one year of relevant toxicology experience.
AND for all Options:
· Communicating results through written and oral presentations
· Practical skills in MS Excel for spreadsheet tasks, database management, MS Word for document creation and formatting, and Microsoft Outlook or similar email systems for electronic correspondence.
NOTE: Relevant toxicology experience may include:
· Analyzing and evaluating toxicological and health data
· Conducting human health risk and exposure assessments for environmental chemicals.
· Evaluating toxicology research literature for relevance to emerging human health toxicology issues of public health concern.
· Knowledge of toxicological information and research methodologies, current regulatory issues, health assessment methods, and statistical analysis.
· Experience developing scientific documents and educational materials for diverse populations.
· Evaluating the exposures and effects of toxic chemicals on health outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience working for a public health agency.
· Experience working on environmental human health toxicology.
