As a member of the Community Investments & Engagement Branch Team, you will serve as a Management Analyst 5 -Equity & Social Justice Strategist (ESJ Strategist) – and provide consultation to agency leadership to  Identify and implement community solutions, equitable investments, and community partnerships to advance public health priorities and outcomes.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Researching new and existing models, standards, and plans of both a complex and highly complex nature to facilitate and inform a community investments and engagement strategy specifically tailored to address the unequal burden of health-related disparities among identified on communities and the social determinants of health.
Updating and maintaining for the Community Driven Outreach Program, an inventory of stakeholders, partners, and communities who are disproportionately impacted by health inequities. Creating a statewide directory of trusted messengers and natural partners that have been funded in previous or current funding opportunities provided by Department of Health (DOH). Mobilizing new partnerships and cross-collaboration opportunities to address evolving needs and the continued impacts of health inequities.
Developing and operationalizing a plan to integrate the voices of community-based organizations and their networks participating in The Center for Community Relations and Equity (CCRE) and other DOH programs into equity-related decisions, guidance, and resource opportunities. Facilitating connections with CCRE policy and communications initiatives.
Proactively creating structured and supported opportunities for cross-sector collaboration among partners, sister agencies, local health jurisdictions, and other governmental entities. Facilitating connections between partners and communities.
Serving as lead for selected strategies and activities focused on building on, leveraging, and expanding infrastructure support for communities and mobilizing community organizations. Identifying, informing, and implementing strategies to sustain and strengthen community and related public health infrastructure to address disparities and advance health equity in undeserved and disproportionately affected populations.

Essential Requirements & Qualifications

Note: Experience defined below may have been gained through paid or unpaid activities. Please ensure any relevant experience defined below is outlined in your cover letter, resume, and/or applicant profile.

 

Option 1: Four (4) or more years of experience leading, developing, or coordinating projects or programs that focus on community engagement, addressing health inequities, social justice, and/or working with historically marginalized groups.
Option 2: A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in public health, community health, social work, health communications, public administration, business administration, or a related field; AND two (2) or more years of experience leading, developing, or coordinating projects or programs that focus on community engagement, addressing health inequities, social justice, and/or working with historically marginalized groups.
AND (for BOTH of the above options) the following:

Demonstrated experience and commitment in the following:
Planning health programs and projects including experience with assessment, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
Leading and managing multiple, complex projects at the same time.
Integrating community voice, feedback, needs, and preferences into program plans, projects, and initiatives.
Building partnerships and working collaboratively with others.
Experience planning and facilitating accessible meetings or convenings with community partners.
Core Competencies:

Experience addressing the root causes of systemic inequities and social determinants of health.
Excellent organizational and communication (verbal, written and interpersonal) skills.
Ability to exercise a high level of emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and judgment during challenging or ambiguous situations.
Desired Skills & Preferred Experience

Experience building new systems and processes to improve collaboration, coordination, quality improvement, and/or equity.
Advanced low or higher proficiency in one or more of the 37 most spoken languages (Download PDF reader) in Washington State other than English.
Demonstrated experience with contracts, invoicing, or managing vendors.

Work Location & Flexibility

The incumbent may be located anywhere within the State of Washington. Telework (mobile work) is currently expected. When approved, the incumbent will work with their supervisor to identify an appropriate work schedule and balance including telework and reporting to the Tumwater, WA duty station for work activities as needed.   We anticipate the incumbent will work at the Tumwater office 1 day monthly.
