Job Description:

The Department of Health Sciences at William & Mary, a public university in Virginia, invites applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in Public Health. Appointment will begin August 10, 2026. We are interested in individuals with research and teaching expertise in any area of public health, with a preference for candidates with expertise in social and behavioral sciences. The successful applicant will possess the skills to teach a range of courses in public health including introduction to public health and introduction to global health, as well as upper-level courses related to social, behavioral, policy, and/or environmental impacts on public health.  We seek a candidate whose work complements the current public health faculty and can contribute to or expand the current research and teaching expertise of the department.

 

Duties include research, teaching, and service to the University. The applicant is expected to establish and maintain a vibrant externally funded research program that inspires a highly motivated undergraduate student body.

 

Teaching expectation is 2 courses per semester. Successful applicants must possess the skills to teach general public health courses and other lecture and seminar-style courses, as well as contribute to mentored student research and/or experiential learning in public health.

 

Required Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or related terminal degree in Public Health. at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2026). Applicants must provide evidence of scholarly achievement or demonstrate potential as a scholar (i.e., publication record, research plans, and past, current, or potential external funding).

 

Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in teaching and mentoring successful undergraduate research is preferred. Evidence of research and teaching expertise in the social and behavioral sciences. Postdoctoral research experience is desirable.
