Overview

The Department of Biostatistics at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health has an immediate opening in CBAR for a Ph.D.-level Research Associate statistician to work in the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) with a particular focus of tuberculosis research. The ACTG is a very large NIH-funded collaborative clinical trials network with an international research agenda focused on the treatment and cure of HIV infection and associated co-morbidities, particularly tuberculosis. Successful applicant will join over 100 statisticians, epidemiologists and research staff collaborating on the design, monitoring, analysis and reporting of Phase I through Phase IV clinical trials, diagnostic studies and observational studies. Applicants should have the potential to take a leadership role in the ACTG and other infectious diseases projects, and the ability to: work as part of collaborative teams in designing, conducting and reporting results from clinical trials and observational studies; provide the statistical expertise for and lead the statistical work on studies including mentoring and supervising other staff; and develop a self-initiated research agenda – including statistical methodology – related to their HIV and infectious diseases research projects. The position may include statistical methods research for someone with an appropriate background. This position provides an opportunity to be a leader in a new generation of statistician-trialists.

Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications Doctoral degree in biostatistics or related field. Research Associate position is available for new doctoral graduates; Research Scientist appointment requires at least two years clinical trials or related applied experience beyond doctorate and publication record beyond thesis papers. Applicants should demonstrate evidence of the ability to conduct collaborative and methodological research and work independently in the design, conduct, monitoring and analysis of trial and observational studies. Applicants should also demonstrate strong quantitative and communication skills and have interest in assuming a leadership role. Experience with SAS and multi-center clinical trials a plus.

About The Center for Biostatistics in AIDS Research (CBAR)

The Center for Biostatistics in AIDS Research (CBAR), an organization within the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health, is responsible for the design, monitoring and statistical analysis of clinical trials and observational studies for several major national and international NIH-funded clinical research networks. CBAR employs over 70 statisticians and epidemiologists including Harvard faculty, research scientists and staff. Investigators within CBAR have provided statistical leadership and support for clinical research networks for more than twenty-five years. Currently this includes infectious disease networks such as: the Adult AIDS Clinical Trials Groups (ACTG), the International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials Group (IMPAACT), the Pediatric HIV/AIDS Cohort Study (PHACS), the Antibacterial Resistance Leadership Group (ARLG), and the Influenza Research Collaboration (IRC). Results from studies have helped to establish the paradigm for the treatment and prevention of HIV and other infectious diseases, and contributed to international treatment and prevention guidelines.
