Reporting directly to the Dean of the Rollins School of Public Health (RSPH), with a dual reporting relationship to the Senior Vice Provost for Academic Finance and Operations and the SVP/Enterprise Chief Financial Officer, provides strategic vision, financial leadership, and operational stewardship for the RSPH. The position oversees school-level financial services, human resources, fulfillment services, information technology, and research administration and is the official responsible for unit business decisions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The leadership role has the responsibility for a budget of $220M and an organization of approximately 400 staff, 200 faculty, and 1200 students.
  • Serves on the school’s executive committee as a senior leader in policy and decision making and alignment with strategic plan and the school’s tripartite mission of education, research, and practice.
  • Serves as a trusted advisor on financial strategy regarding financial trends, risks and opportunities, and interprets the impact on decisions.

FINANCE:

  • Provides leadership in annual and long-range financial planning and management.
  • Advises the Dean on all matters related to finance, budget planning, and resource allocation.
  • Partners with department chairs to support their strategic initiatives and funding needs.
  • Develops financial models and coordinates with Student Services on enrollment, tuition, and scholarship impacts as well as new programs and degrees.
  • Provides financial and variance reports.
  • Campus liaison for finance and business operations.
  • Takes leadership in the development of financial dashboards, reports, and budget presentations.

HUMAN RESOURCES:

  • Ensures efficiency and compliance in all aspects of HR for the division including recruitment, compensation, employee relations, retention, and employee compliance with university policies and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with all university policies, federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Implements and evaluates annual merit increases.
  • Partners with department chairs and unit directors on equity and retention concerns, developing action plans, including appropriate competitive equity analysis with appropriate market data.
  • Collaborates with central HR and manages employee relations recommendations and concerns.

FULFILLMENT SERVICES (BUILDING OPERATIONS):

  • Oversees facilities management of all RSPH buildings, monitors and facilitates all maintenance for day-to-day operations and renovation projects for master planning.
  • Collaborates with Campus Services on building operations and the development and management of capital projects.
  • Allocates and assigns space to departments and reviews utilization.
  • Sponsors and serves on the space committee. .

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY:

  • Oversees information technology services, evaluates future needs and ensures IT meets the overall needs of RSPH.
  • Prioritizes requests and ensures alignment with the revenue generating components of the RSPH strategic plan and goals.

RESEARCH ADMINISTRATION:

  • Oversees school level research administrative functions ensuring appropriate resourcing to ensure research administration continuity.
  • Coordinates with central Office of Research Administration on fiscal, regulatory, and contractual compliance.
  • Completes school level review for proposals being submitted. Documents and reviews faculty effort plans.
  • Engages in planning and problem-solving for departments and centers submitting large grants.

STAFF SUPERVISION AND DEVELOPMENT:

  • Meets weekly with all direct reports and hosts a quarterly directors meeting.
  • Sponsors the staff council.
  • Oversees and coordinates the staff development series for the school.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MBA or related master’s degree and 10 years of progressive accounting, financial or related experience, ideally in a higher education setting.
  • Management experience required.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.  Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.

About Emory University - Rollins School of Public Health

The Rollins School of Public Health (RSPH) at Emory University is ranked 2nd among public health graduate schools by U.S. News & World Report and ranks 4th in the nation for NIH funding. RSPH is comprised of six academic departments: global health, behavioral sciences and health education, biostatistics, environmental health, epidemiology, and health policy and management, and hosts over two dozen interdisciplinary centers. More than 200 full-time, doctoral-level faculty members teach and conduct research in areas such as mathematical modeling of infectious disease transmission, exploring relationships between nutrition and chronic disease, and investigating cancer causation. Other research interests include identifying the social determinants of health behaviors, HIV/AIDS, developing health promotion programs to foster changes in nutrition and other health-related behaviors, detecting and preventing adverse outcomes related to toxic chemicals and extreme heat, and evaluating the cost of health care and the allocation of health resources. RSPH draws strength from several unique local resources. The adjacent U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provides more than half of the school's 300 adjunct faculty. The Carter Center is involved in international health intervention programs that provide student practicum opportunities. The school also shares research activities with the national headquarters of the American Cancer Society and international headquarters of CARE, both based in Atlanta.

The RSPH is comprised of three building occupying over 500,000 sq. ft. of extensive office, teaching, and laboratory space. This includes the 190,000 sq. ft Grace Crum Rollins Building, housing the Departments of Behavioral, Social, and Health Education Sciences, Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, and Health Policy and Management, the Claudia Nance Rollins Building, a 190,000 square foot facility currently housing the Departments of Environmental Health and Epidemiology, and the R. Randall Rollins Building housing the Hubert Department of Global Health, student services, and specialized training and collaboration spaces. The Rollins School of Public Health sits at the west end of campus, adjoining with Emory’s Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, Emory School of Medicine O. Wayne Rollins and Whitehead Research Buildings, and the Woodruff Biomedical Library. Emory is unique to have a campus where all professional schools, the undergraduate Emory College of Arts and Sciences, and Emory University Hospital share adjacency on a single campus, allowing for accessible interactions and collaboration opportunities.
