Responsibilities

The Data Administrator III will provide project and data support to the New York State Unintentional Drug Overdose Reporting System (SUDORS) within the Office of Drug User Health. This program is responsible for investigating accidental overdoses in New York State. The incumbent will assist in reviewing the quality and completeness of death certificates, coroner or medical examiner records and toxicology reports. The incumbent will enter data into the federal databases based on upon established guidelines. The incumbent will request, collect, and abstract data and ensure that all required information is obtained from reporting sources. The incumbent will track report submission as part of the Drug Overdose Report Submission Reimbursement Program, and coordinate reimbursement activities and payments. The incumbent will assist with documentation of procedures and protocols of the SUDORS program and data abstraction and will assist with training and technical assistance for data abstractors and coroners and medical examiners. The incumbent will also provide supervision to the Assistant Data Administrator(s). The incumbent will provide key information related to overdoses to program staff to inform overdose prevention interventions. The incumbent will also conduct outreach to Coroner and Medical Examiner offices in New York State to assist in improving the quality and quantity of overdose mortality data.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in a related field and one year of experience in data quality control, data quality improvement and data collection; OR an Associates degree in a related field and three years of such experience; OR five years of such experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of Drug User Health, experience with the Statewide Unintentional Drug Overdose Reporting System (SUDORS) or National Violent Death Reporting System, health surveillance, or death record data abstraction, and working with confidential data. Experience with the Secure Access Management System (SAMS).

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Travel, up to 10% of the time, will be required.

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be available.
