Directs statewide management and compliance of one or more Environmental Health Programs. Establishes policy and procedures in compliance with rules, regulations and codes. Ensures programs implemented to protect employees and communities. Directs subordinate staff and managers. Provides direction and influence on agency policy. Frequently reports to the EH Section Director. May provide leadership across multiple units and programs.
Job Responsibilities:
Plans, organizes and directs the work of the program to provide continuous service to internal and external clients
Manages human resources and employee functions.
Participates in the development and administration of the environmental health program budget.
Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of environmental health services and programs for assigned area.
Assures environmental health services provided by the Department are adequate, appropriate and accessible for assigned area.
Set priorities and implements goals and objectives to meet or resolve environmental health problems.
Participates in or assesses internal/external customer needs and develops policies and plans based on data collection, activity reports, planning documents, program plans and objectives.
Develop long-term (five year) and short term (one year) goals and objectives for the assigned environmental health program and participates in the environmental health branch’s strategic and operational planning.
Plans and organizes assigned environmental health program structure to meet environmental health branch organizational and programmatic objectives.
Maintains professional knowledge of current laws, policies, trends and developments in the field of environmental health and applies pertinent new knowledge to performance of other responsibilities.
Creates and maintains a high performance environment characterized by positive leadership and a strong team orientation.
Knowledge of EH Emergency Response plan and ESF 8 responsibilities; and Incident Command Structure.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, which included the completion of 27 semester hours (or 40 quarter hours) in laboratory science (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.) and five (5) years of professional-level experience performing work related to area of assignment, which includes two (2) years in a managerial or supervisory role; or three (3) years as a District Mgr, PH Environ Hitch (RCM061) or position equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Environmental Health, Public Health or related field and 3 years professional level experience performing work related to area of assignment, 1 year of which was in a supervisory role.
