This position will be housed in the Office of Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response (OIDPR) within the Center for Infectious Diseases (CID) at the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by supporting the readiness of the Department for emergency response by triaging urgent infectious disease-related information and requests and helping to ensure 24/7 access to infectious disease subject matter expertise.

Under the direction of the Assistant Office Chief, the Associate Health Program Advisor (AHPA) serves as the Triage Coordinator for the Center for Infectious Diseases (CID) Office of Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response (OIDPR). The AHPA supports the Department’s emergency readiness by triaging urgent infectious disease-related information and requests and helping to ensure 24/7 access to infectious disease subject matter expertise. The AHPA will rapidly disseminate urgent information, inquiries, and requests related to infectious disease situational updates, outbreaks, threats, or emergencies to key points of contact in CID. The position will additionally provide administrative and logistical support for the CID Duty Officer of the Day (DOD) Program, including coordination of weekly volunteer handoffs. The AHPA supports the OIDPR Office Chief and Assistant Office Chief by supporting meeting planning and facilitation; developing presentations and slide decks; gathering information to support report writing; providing technical assistance on the application of new systems and tools (e.g., AI CoPilot, SharePoint) to improve business operation efficiencies; helping to identify, coordinate, and implement innovative process improvements for the Office; and developing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) and other office documentation.

In the case of a public health emergency, this position may be asked to redirect to serve rotations in emergency staffing roles aligned with their classification level.

This position requires occasional statewide travel based on operational needs and public health emergency response demands. Travel may include visits to the CDPH headquarters in Sacramento or Richmond and other locations throughout California to support program coordination, emergency preparedness efforts and business operations.

In July 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025. This program temporarily reduces employees’ monthly base pay in exchange for paid leave credits. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027. The salary ranges shown on this job posting do not reflect the salary reduction.

Base knowledge in public health and infectious diseases
Preferred: work experience in emergency response
