Overview

Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH) is hiring a Research Assistant (RA) to conduct research participant recruitment and data collection for the Burden Study at one abortion facility in Granite City, IL, near St. Louis, MO. The Burden Study aims to document the multiple barriers people face accessing abortion care and whether these experiences are stressful, difficult, or anxiety provoking. We will recruit approximately 800 people accessing abortion care from participating abortion facilities across the country (Illinois, California, and New Mexico), of which approximately 250 patients will be recruited from this abortion facility.

The RA will approach patients in the clinic waiting room for approximately 20 weeks between November and April, until recruitment is complete.  Participants will be asked to complete a one-time survey administered electronically (using an iPad) while they are waiting for their appointment. The RA will be responsible for carrying out recruitment, eligibility screening, and informed consent processes, as well as administering surveys, maintaining research records, protecting confidential information, keeping study data secure, and responding to training and quality improvement measures. The research team (research investigators, project director and other team members) are based at ANSIRH’s research office, located in Oakland, California. We will consider applications from candidates who are available mornings and early afternoons weekdays and Saturday for approximately 4-6 months to recruit at an abortion facility in Granite City, IL. Surveys include questions about sensitive topics such as circumstances around pregnancy and abortion, feelings about being pregnant and having an abortion, and mental health. Comfort with these issues and interacting in a positive and sensitive manner with individuals receiving abortion services, is essential. Preference will be given to local residents in the Granite City/St. Louis Area.

The RA will perform independently or with general direction by the project director study investigators to execute, manage, and coordinate the data collection and operations of the study under the guidelines of research protocols, UCSF and regulating agency policies.
