Job Description and Duties
Under the administrative direction of the Public Health Medical Administrator I, Chief, Occupational Health Branch (OHB), the Public Health Medical Officer (PHMO) III serves as medical expert on occupational illness and injury including occupational lead poisoning and emerging occupational health issues. Provides medical and technical consultation and recommendations to employees, employers, clinicians, health and safety professionals, unions, non-governmental organizations, and other state programs including the Department of Industrial Relations. Initiates index case investigations and special surveillance projects for occupational lead poisoning and emerging workplace hazards. Collaborates with local, state, and federal agencies and employer, worker, and healthcare professional organizations to gather and/or share information relating to worker exposure to lead and other hazardous substances.
May required up to 5% statewide travel.
This position is flexible (based on the need of business), it can be hybrid, telework-centered, or office-centered in compliance with CDPH’s Telework Policy and Procedures.

The attached duty statement indicates whether this position is eligible for telework. All employees who telework are required to be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200, and may be required to report to a CDPH office, when needed. Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment. Failure to meet this requirement may result in the job offer being rescinded.
