This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by performing a variety of investigations, monitoring, and inspection activities for the purpose of identifying employee health and safety and facility infrastructure problems.

The Associate Industrial Hygienist (AIH) working as the Industrial Hygienist, works with laboratory managers and is a member of the Laboratory Practices Health and Safety Committee to evaluate identified workplace hazards and laboratory practices to achieve consensus on the remedial action if occupational hazard is detected. Has authority to order cessation of work or shut down operations should any hazard to employees exist.

The incumbent works under the general direction of the Research Scientist Supervisor II (RSSII) of the Lab Operations Section.

The attached duty statement indicates whether this position is eligible for telework. All employees who telework are required to be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200, and may be required to report to a CDPH office, when needed. Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment. Failure to meet this requirement may result in the job offer being rescinded.
