Job Description and Duties
Incumbents in one of these classifications, where a Master’s Degree is required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 2% of their monthly base pay. Those where a Doctoral Degree is a required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 3% of their monthly base pay. Individuals with both a Master’s and Doctoral Degree will be given the best benefit in relation to salary shall only be eligible for only one amount.

Oversee genomic surveillance data needs of CDPH and the state of California. Supervise team staff to assure accountability and integrity of COVID-19 genomics data. Establish and maintain reliable, efficient, and effective methods for combining genomics data obtained from public repositories such as GISAID and GenBank with CDPH data pipelines. Increase Genomics Unit’s ability to identify emerging variants of public health importance. Establish and maintain effective protocols to ensure timely and accurate reporting to all partners. Analyze and resolve problems and demonstrate solid subject matter knowledge.  Oversee and contribute to analyses and special projects related to genomics of COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses as identified by the Branch Chief and CDPH leadership.

 

Provide technical expertise on reporting COVID-19 variants and associated trends to local health departments and CDPH teams. Develop and implement plans for representative sampling, including in clinical isolates representing diverse geographic and demographic (e.g., age, gender, race/ethnicity, congregate settings) populations over time. Establish and maintain reliable, efficient, and effective methods for communication with team members and other Branch members via web-based applications, telephone, and email to maintain awareness of team capacity, status of data and immediate needs.

 

Analyze and resolve problems and demonstrate solid subject matter knowledge.  Oversee and contribute to analyses and special projects related to genomics of COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses as identified by the Branch Chief and CDPH leadership.
