Job Description and Duties
Incumbents in one of these classifications, where a Master’s Degree is required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 2% of their monthly base pay. Those where a Doctoral Degree is a required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 3% of their monthly base pay. Individuals with both a Master’s and Doctoral Degree will be given the best benefit in relation to salary shall only be eligible for only one amount.

 

The Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health (MCAH) Division is recruiting to fill a vacant Research Scientist (RS) II position to begin a long-term career as an evaluation scientist.

 

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by maintaining a proactive culture of quality improvement and leveraging data and technology to enhance services.

 

The Research Scientist (RS) II will serve as a staff scientist contributing to the design and implementation of Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health (MCAH) program evaluations for the Adolescent Sexual Health Education Program. The RS II will apply scientific approaches to critically evaluate and monitor public health program models focused on health disparities elimination and will assess and troubleshoot evaluation related issues at the local and state levels. The RS II participates in the design and implementation of all phases of evaluations and fidelity studies; and/or leading discrete projects of moderate scope, coordinating data collection, documenting, and presenting findings. This position includes some statewide and local travel, up to 5%, to implementing sites and professional meetings.

 

The Research Scientist (RS) II works under the general supervision of the Chief of the Adolescent Program Evaluation and Data Unit.

Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment.
