Job Description and Duties
This vacancy is being advertised statewide, with locations available in Sacramento, Contra Costa, Los Angeles, and San Diego Counties.  The headquarters location will be determined based on the location of the most qualified candidate.  Travel is expected throughout state of CA.

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by designing and conducting scientific research studies of limited scientific scope and complexity to maximize use of enhanced disease surveillance strategies and informatics, and for the identification of disease trends amongst refugees in California. Under supervision of senior scientific the Research Scientist (RS) I will serve as a team member on refugee research projects, program evaluation and investigations. Acts as the Refugee Health Assessment Program’s technical scientific consultant on the collection of data and adherence to the program and research protocols. In addition, makes independent decisions in the adherence to the program established guidelines and technical scientific research procedures and adapt research methods to problems of limited scientific scope.

The incumbent works under the Research Scientist Supervisor I (Epi/Bio) of the Office of Refugee Health Chief.

The attached duty statement indicates whether this position is eligible for telework. All employees who telework are required to be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200, and may be required to report to a CDPH office, when needed. Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment. Failure to meet this requirement may result in the job offer being rescinded.
