Overview

This is an exciting time to join EMSA. In this role, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) has significant responsibility for formulating and advising the administration of clinical policies and programs. The CMO advises the Director on clinical best practices within the field of emergency medical services. The role provides clinical leadership and oversight concerning treatment, education, and other matters involving medical decision making and delivery of patient care, including, but not limited to, scope of practice, trauma system organization, stroke, ST-elevation myocardial infarction requirements, first aid and CPR training.

The California Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA) oversees emergency and disaster medical services in the state of California. EMSA is charged with providing leadership in the innovation and administration of the emergency medical services system throughout the state. The EMSA is also responsible for promoting disaster medical preparedness and coordinating and supporting California’s medical response to major disasters.

Requirements:

·        Current California Physician License (MD, DO)

·        Board Certification in Emergency Medicine

·        Minimum 5 years of work experience in Emergency Medical Services

·        DEA License

 

The Ideal Candidate:

·        Has comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices, and trends in emergency medicine and prehospital medicine.

·        Possesses the clinical expertise to evaluate and endorse revisions to Standard Operating Procedures for EMS providers.

·        Demonstrates expertise in EMS system design and operations to finalize EMS plans, including emergency medical dispatch protocols, specialty clinical programs, and quality improvement initiatives.

·        Has knowledge of regulatory compliance and state and federal regulations governing EMS practice, training, and quality improvement.

·        Is experienced in consulting and advising on clinical best practices within the field of EMS.

·        Analyzes data and presents ideas and information effectively both orally and in writing

The California Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA) oversees emergency and disaster medical services in the state of California. EMSA functions as one of thirteen departments and five offices within California’s Health and Human Services Agency (CalHHS). EMSA is charged with providing leadership in the innovation and administration of the emergency medical services (EMS) system throughout the state, which includes setting standards for the training and scope of practice for various levels of EMS personnel. EMSA is also responsible for promoting disaster medical preparedness throughout the state, and when required, coordinating, and supporting the State of California’s medical response to major disasters.
