Description
Hennepin County’s Public Health Clinic is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician. This position will be responsible for performing routine clinical diagnostic tests, collecting and processing specimen, performing quality control procedures, monitoring results, and making corrections within laboratory procedures and protocols.

Location and hours:
This position is located at the Health Services Building at 525 Portland Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55415. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, with typical hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Shift schedules are subject to change due to division programming changes. Once late clinic hours resume two days a week, there will be the expectation that this position will work one shift per week with the hours of 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

In this position, you will:

·       Perform routine clinical diagnostic tests.

·       Collect and process specimen.

·       Perform routine quality control of laboratory equipment and maintain applicable documentation and records.

·       Enter and monitor patient lab results in electronic health record.

·       Assist with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) certification.

·       Communicate results and follow procedures for reporting to medical/clinical staff.

·       Use of electronic medical record (EMR) to document patient results.

·       Supply monitoring and ordering, as necessary.

·       Create and follow lab safety regulations and guidelines.

Need to have:

·       One of the following:

o   An Associate’s degree or higher as a Medical Laboratory Technician from an accredited program.

o   Completion of a comprehensive military laboratory science program.

·       Certified or eligible for certification within one year of hire as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathology) or AAB (American Association of Bioanalysts) through written examination.

Nice to have:

·       Experience:

o   As a medical laboratory technician.

o   Using lab information systems and electronic medical records systems, including EPIC.

o   With phlebotomy.

·       Knowledge of:

o   Basic laboratory techniques, specimen collection, and quality control.

o   Laboratory equipment, routine laboratory record keeping, and safety practices.

o   The theory and principles of laboratory testing.

·       Ability to:

o   Organize work based upon test priority and efficiency.

o   Provide customer service and promote teamwork.

o   Communicate effectively.

o   Work independently and in partnership with Senior Medical Laboratory Technician and other clinical team members.

 

Invitations to interview will be based upon an assessment of education and experience. Final candidates may be required to complete a drug test that may include testing for cannabis and/or background check.
