Overview

Metrics for Management seeks a qualified Research Analyst to support research and technical assistance activities, supervised by a Research Associate. The Research Analyst will advance critical metric development, testing, and support initiatives that seek to improve the measurement, understanding, and delivery of health services.

M4M works in a wide variety of focus areas, including health equity, health financing, women’s and reproductive health, malaria, and adolescent and child health. Staff routinely support the development of new metrics, provide assistance to users of current metrics, and engage in project-specific support, such as within larger, donor-funded, consortia. In addition, all M4M team members are encouraged to propose new metric opportunities, as well as refinements and additions to our current suite of metrics.

This position will focus on our malaria portfolio.

The successful candidate will have opportunities to publish articles and reports, attend and present at domestic and international conferences, and use and learn a variety of quantitative and qualitative research and analysis techniques.

The Research Analyst’s key roles and responsibilities may include:

Support design, planning and implementation of projects related to malaria performance measurement in global health.
Provision of technical support, training, or project implementation in low- and middle-income countries.
Conduct data cleaning and supporting data analysis using a wide array of quantitative and qualitative research techniques.
Learn and use reproducible data analysis software as required by M4M projects (such as Stata, R, or other software).
Support the development of research and evaluation protocols and IRB submissions.
Conduct literature searches and reviews, as well as research for background papers/briefing documents.
Engage in report writing, and client-oriented presentation development, as well as translation of technical strategy into new proposal content. Serve as a technical resource during proposal writing.
The qualified candidate will have the following credentials:

Master’s Degree plus 3-5 years of relevant experience.
Proficiency in coding within standard statistical software programs (Stata or R), as well as proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
Experience with both quantitative and qualitative research desired.
Knowledge of salient issues in international public health, including malaria. Knowledge in other areas such as maternal, reproductive, child and adolescent, or primary health care are an asset.
Experience in a low- or middle-income country context, particularly in Africa, a plus.
Fluency in English. Other language abilities, especially French, Spanish and/or Portuguese, are beneficial.
Excellent writing for both technical and general audiences.
Demonstrated capabilities in managing overlapping project tasks and deadlines.
Significant attention to detail.
Cultural sensitivity and flexibility in working with a variety of global partners.
Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
Energy and enthusiasm to take on new responsibilities and grow with Metrics for Management.
Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally up to 15% of the time.
Location

Baltimore, MD or Remote

Strong preference for a candidate based in Baltimore, MD / Washington, DC where we employ a hybrid work model out of our Baltimore office. Remote work based in the United States or Canada is also possible, with an expectation of quarterly travel to Baltimore and significant overlap with US East Coast Business hours.

Salary

Annual salary of $85,000-100,000 based on experience. Annual performance-based salary increases, as well as cost-of-living adjustments.
